Mastering is the final stage of the music making process before we upload it to the world to hear. We always recommend getting things to sound right during the recording process & in your mix first before mastering.
The following areas are ballpark numbers & you will have to search somewhere between these areas. Some vocals may have these same issues, but at even lower or higher frequencies; each vocal is different. You won’t always need to cut every area either. Some vocals may need a cut in a certain area while some are best left alone in another area.
The more & more you get involved in mixing, having some good EQs in your collection will be useful & can help your workflow. Now, the most important thing though is knowing how to properly use any EQ you have & know what to search for when boosting or cutting frequencies.
